About The Eltax Vintage MTR 1959 Speakers
With its vintage look, the Eltax Vintage MTR 1959 is a direct descendant of its big sister, the Eltax Vintage PWR 1959.
Its solid construction allows it to deliver an incredibly warm sound in a very efficient way. The Eltax Vintage MTR 1959 is a 3-way bass reflex model with a 12” (305mm) diameter bass driver and a 4.7” (120mm) diameter midrange driver in a sealed wooden enclosure. Both drivers are made of cellulose, coated for the midrange, offering a dynamic and reactive sound reproduction.
Its 1” (25mm) tweeter is made of a silk dome placed in a compression chamber to mechanically amplify the sound, thus making its high frequency reproduction more precise and natural.
The reinforcements of the cabinet provide rigidity to the whole and allow it to eliminate any harmful vibration for serene and parasite-free listening.
Designed to reproduce a live concert in all its majesty without cluttering up the room, the Eltax Vintage MRT 1959 offers an excellent compromise between listening comfort, power handling and tonal precision in a timeless vintage design.
About Eltax
Eltax was founded by Ingemann Marius Nielsen in Herning in 1959 as a wholesale dealer to the Hi-Fi industry. In the early 60’s when the introduction of Hi-Fi stereo created a bigger demand for speakers, Eltax was one of first Danish companies to make stand-alone speakers.
Located in Jutland, Denmark 300km from Copenhagen, this Danish company, has been manufacturing hi-fi speakers for over 50 years. These speakers are renowned for their design and excellent value for money. The successful combination of design quality, audio performance and affordability has earned Eltax a worldwide following. At Eltax, attention to detail isn’t just a figure of speech, it is part of the brand’s heritage.

Our Take On The Eltax Vintage MTR 1959 Speakers
Following on in the footsteps of the Vintage PWR 1959, the substantially smaller and much more room and pocket friendly Vintage MTR still has that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes you want to act like a loon and turn everything up to 11. It ‘only’ has a 12” bass driver but is still a 3 way with a 4.7” midrange and 1” silk dome tweeter. There’s something about the looks of this speaker with its old fashioned boxy shape and big front mounted port that says ‘Sledgehammer’ and we’re pretty sure that’s how most people are going to use it. Don’t get us wrong, this is a high quality speaker that sounds good on a wide variety of music. We just get the feeling these speakers are going to get a serious workout by whoever buys them. Just hope and pray you’re not going to be their neighbours, but if you are, may we interest you in some noise cancelling headphones, with noise cancelling set to maximum?
